The sharing economy is a part of a larger phenomenon called the collaborative platform economy. The sharing economy is not clearly defined, it is a word used by many people to mean many different (but related) things. Hamari et. al. (2015) describe it as "the peer-to-peer-based activity of obtaining, giving, or sharing the access to goods and services, coordinated through community-based online services." You may be familiar with services like Uber and Airbnb, those are the most well known participators in the Sharing Economy. This site will attempt to describe the ways that the Sharing Economy presents itself today, address some of the problems associated with it, and provide examples of ways it can move forward.
